The U >< N<>I<<T>> A exhibition was visited on Saturday the 8th of September in the venue Atelierhaus Salzamit. The venue solely contained this exhibition by artists Station Rose. As discussed earlier, it was deemed relevant as it ‘shows the already existing deep interweaving of these seemingly independent levels and forms of life’ 1, i.e. those of the urban, natural and augmented. Therefore, it was an opportunity to view how these experienced artists (working with digital art since 1988) perceived this interrelationship.
While not overtly ecological in scope, a key finding from this visit was in how augmented reality could enhance traditional printed and painted work. The artists work with printed materials such as books, but also embed augmented reality into these traditional media, allowing the viewer to experience rich media content not usually visible in ‘analogue’ contexts. I suggest this is of key salience for this research project in terms of how to inform publics about environmental issues.
For example, a key application in this format could be from mere leaflet drops about environmental issues. It would allow information to be presented in printed form, with the ability to be taken straight to another form of media, say through a smartphone, while still viewing the leaflet. Thus, a short video or other educational material could be embedded in printed material, while not compromising the information within the leaflet.
